Location¶
Overview¶
The gateway stores its geographic coordinates — latitude, longitude, and altitude. Set these so your LoRaWAN Network Server (LNS) can register the gateway's position and show it on a map. You manage the coordinates in the Gateway UI, on the Location page.
There are two ways to set the location:
- Manually — type the coordinates or drop a pin on the map.
- From GPS — sync a fix from the GPS receiver built into the LTE modem.
Prerequisites¶
- Access to the Gateway UI
- For a GPS sync: a clear view of the sky
- Patience — depending on signal, a GPS fix can take around 15 to 120 minutes
Set the location manually¶
- In the Gateway UI, open Location.
- Under Manual Coordinates, enter the Latitude, Longitude, and Altitude. You can also select Open Map, then move the pin or click the map to place it.
- Select Save Location.
Select Refresh at any time to reload the saved values.
Sync the location from GPS¶
The GPS receiver is part of the LTE modem, but it works on its own — a GPS sync does not need a SIM card or a working LTE connection. It only needs a clear view of the sky. Place the gateway outdoors or near a window before you start.
- In the Gateway UI, open Location.
- Select Sync from GPS.
- Set a Timeout between 30 and 120 minutes (the default is 60), then select Start GPS Sync.
- The page shows the sync state, satellites used, and satellites in view while it runs. To stop early, select Cancel GPS Sync.
When the sync finds a fix, it saves the coordinates automatically.
A first fix can take a while
The first GPS fix can take 15 minutes to two hours, especially if the gateway has poor satellite visibility. If the signal is weak or blocked, the sync may time out before it finds a location — move the gateway to a spot with a clearer view of the sky and try again.
Next steps¶
- Install the gateway at your deployment site
- Confirm the gateway's position in your LoRaWAN network server
